About PaycheckGuru

What PaycheckGuru Is

PaycheckGuru provides free payroll, income tax, RRSP, and sales tax calculators for Canadians. Since 2019, the site has helped employees, freelancers, and small business owners answer practical questions: What will my take-home pay be? How much tax do I owe in my province? How much would an RRSP contribution save me? Every tool covers all 10 provinces and 3 territories, including Quebec-specific rules for QPP and QPIP.

Who Is Behind It

PaycheckGuru is independently built and maintained by a finance professional who has worked in Canadian industry as a Finance Director, with hands-on responsibility for payroll, statutory deductions, and tax compliance — the same CPP, EI, and income tax rules these calculators model. I have been building salary and tax calculator platforms since 2009, when I launched my first calculator site in Europe; PaycheckGuru brought that experience to Canada.

This site is not run by a content agency or a marketing team. It is run by someone who reads the CRA publications because it is part of the job.

How We Keep the Numbers Accurate

Accuracy is the entire value of a tax calculator, so we follow a simple editorial policy:

  • Official sources only. Every rate, bracket, and maximum is taken from Canada Revenue Agency and Employment and Social Development Canada publications — never from third-party summaries. Key pages link to their government sources directly.
  • Annual full review. All figures are updated each January when new indexation factors, CPP/EI ceilings, and contribution limits take effect.
  • Budget-triggered updates. When a federal or provincial budget changes rates mid-year, affected pages are reviewed and updated.
  • Visible review dates. Pages state which tax year they cover, so you always know whether you are looking at current figures.

If you spot a figure that does not match an official CRA publication, we want to know — corrections are made as soon as they are verified.

What This Site Is Not

PaycheckGuru provides estimates and general information, not professional advice. Our calculators model the standard rules that apply to most employment income, but your personal situation may involve credits, deductions, or circumstances they do not capture. For decisions with real money at stake, please consult a qualified accountant or tax professional.
