Quebec Personal Marginal Income Tax Rates 2026

Quebec’s income tax system is unlike any other in Canada — residents file a separate provincial return with Revenu Québec, and the province sets its own indexation. For 2026, Quebec indexed its brackets and credits by 2.05% (slightly above the 2% federal factor), keeping its four rates unchanged at 14%, 19%, 24%, and 25.75%. The first bracket now covers income up to $54,345, and the basic personal amount rises to $18,952 — the highest provincial BPA outside the Prairies, and unlike the federal BPA, it never phases out at higher incomes.

Quebec’s headline rates look steep, but two features soften the real burden. First, the 16.5% federal abatement: Quebecers get a rebate of 16.5% of their basic federal tax, compensating for provincial program delivery — so the effective federal rate is lower than elsewhere in Canada. Second, 2026 brings payroll relief: the QPP base contribution rate was cut from 10.8% to 10.6%, and QPIP premiums also decreased, leaving slightly more in every paycheque even before income tax changes.

Even so, Quebec remains a high-tax jurisdiction at the upper end. The top combined marginal rate works out to roughly 53.3% on income above $258,482 (25.75% provincial plus the abated federal 33%). And the 19% second provincial rate arrives at just $54,345 — so a Quebecer earning $70,000 faces a 39.5% combined marginal rate, several points above what the same income attracts in Ontario or Alberta. This is why RRSP contributions are unusually powerful for middle-income Quebecers: each dollar deducted saves nearly 40 cents.

With the federal bottom rate at 14% for all of 2026 and the abatement on top, the entry combined rate is about 25.7%. Run your exact numbers — both returns — through our Quebec Tax Calculator.
